Trillium Drug Program deductible

Trillium helps Ontario residents aged 25 to 64 who spend a large share of income on prescription drugs and have no other drug coverage. You must apply through Ontario.ca. Enrollment is not automatic.

How the deductible is calculated

Your annual deductible is roughly 4% of household net income (income after tax and deductions). Example: $45,000 net income per year means about $1,800 per year in deductible before Trillium support applies to eligible drugs.

Household size can affect how spending is assessed. Our calculator uses a simplified model for exploration only. It is not an official eligibility decision.

Who might look at Trillium

  • Age 25 to 64, live in Ontario, no private drug plan
  • High out-of-pocket spending on multiple or expensive prescriptions
  • Drugs covered on the Ontario Drug Benefit formulary (some need Limited Use approval from your doctor)

How our calculator uses Trillium

On step 2, choose "Age 25–64, high prescription costs (maybe Trillium)" and enter household income and approximate annual prescription spending. We compare your estimated deductible to your spending and flag when Trillium may be worth exploring.

Some drugs are "Limited Use" on the Ontario drug list and may need special approval. The calculator flags those medications but does not handle the approval process.
